     Special Notes:
     Unique escort carrier designs. The large powerplant meant that, if necessary these ships could operate with their larger counterparts. The first class of IJN carrier designed with a deck park in mind. The major obstacle with this class was in having only one elevator. Aircraft handling was a headache, when time was a factor. Naming conventions were set aside for this class. Instead of mystic flying creatures the names of IJN heros from the beginning of the century were used.
